Heyas from Mar del Plata

The sea never lets me down... It was again greeeat to see the sea in Mar del Plata, where I travelled with my French friend Gery last weekend. We got there at 2am on Friday morning by bus (3h). After all on the same morning, Gery´s inner alarm clock did work (I knew I couldn’t count on mine!) and we got up before the breakkie was cleaned up. Nice one!

Soon after our morning coffees and medialunas (=half moons=croissants) we found our way to the Kikiwai beach where the “Academia Argentina de Surf” is situated. This amazing home/surf school/view spot etc. is the owned by the legendary first Argentinean surfer, Daniel Gil, who also lives there, and who has 9 surfing kids (!!!). What is quite cute in my opinion is that the second name of his youngest son is Surfiel! When Gery had some business talks to do with Daniel I just enjoyed the amazing feeling by the sea; watching the waves, and the surfers doing their best to catch good ones and to make best of them… I wished I was also in the water.

All in all, our two day trip was basically about hanging out at the surf school and the Kikiwai beach admiring the sea and the surfers, but also about eating well, enjoying the spring sun (which was nice and warm + tanned my face and left marks of my sunnies…), freezing in the spring wind (oh yes, it was also chilly!), playing with a Frisbee on the beach, laughing to really bad jokes, fooling around, talking a bit of serious stuff too, seeing an Argentinean movie about the war of the Falkland Islands (we couldn’t get seats on the bus at 9pm but had to wait for 3,5 more hours to the next one --> we decided to go to the movies)…

It was so niiiice to get away from Tandil on the coast for a while, and to see the sea, yeah, but it is also great to be back home!
